Product Description

Bowen Technique Therapist: Hadden Todd

Bowen technique is a gentle and non-invasive holistic treatment. It aims to restore balance to the body by using small, gentle moves to specific areas of the body. Because Bowen technique is so gentle, it is considered to be suitable for all ages. The precise, light movements of Bowen therapy are applied either directly on the skin or through light clothing to the muscles, tendons or ligaments. A delicate, cross-fibre movement is used to release tension and energetic blocks held in the muscles. This allows the body to rebalance itself naturally and therefore maximise the potential for healing.

A treatment usually takes place with the client lying on a couch or sitting in a chair. The therapist uses their fingers and thumbs to ‘roll’ the muscles and connective tissue using gentle pressure at specific points. Many of the points used correspond to the trigger points used in massage or the acupressure points. The Bowen technique movements assist blood circulation and lymphatic drainage, helping to clear toxins from the body. A session usually lasts from half an hour to an hour with frequent pauses between movements to allow the body time to assimilate changes. The client is left to rest at the end of the treatment for the same reason.

Symptoms that may respond well to the Bowen technique include back pain, sciatica, neck and shoulder problems, sports injuries, migraines and headaches, menstrual problems, chronic fatigue and stress related problems.

Benefits Of Bowen Technique
Everyone can be treated safely using Bowen therapy, from the youngest to the very old. Midwives use Bowen technique with tremendous success on both labouring women and the new-born. At the other end of the scale, geriatric staff and hospice workers report consistently good results with people in their care.

Back pain is one of the most common presentations and one that tends to respond very quickly. Other conditions that are consistently improved by Bowen technique include: frozen shoulder, asthma, tennis elbow, ME, migraine, hayfever, carpal tunnel, RSI, painful or lumpy breasts and whiplash. There are a myriad of symptoms that can be helped by Bowen therapy. The reason for this is that a Bowen therapist does not treat the condition, but rather treats the patient. The work is offered to the body and it is given a choice. If it accepts the work and responds, then the condition is addressed. If the body chooses not to accept, then no harm can be done.
